John Grant, Love is Magic, 2018
King was commissioned by John Grant to create the cover concept for his 2018 album, Love is Magic. Together they hit upon the idea of tapping into ‘recording studio mythology’: Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, recording in a sandpit; Martin Hannett forcing Joy Division’s Stephen Morris to record his drums on the studio roof. The final artwork shows the extremities John Grant would go to, to find ‘that perfect sound’.
